For some people, minor imperfections in their teeth detracts from their smile. While their teeth are structurally okay, they may not like their color or their unevenness. In others, problems like chipping, excessive discoloration or strangely shaped teeth can cause cosmetic issues. For them, the answer might be veneers.
Veneers are created from thin layers of either plastic or porcelain which are cemented over the teeth in a process similar to dental bonding. Veneers are often used because they have a longer life than bonding and are more resistant to staining from common food and drinks.
The process of placing veneers takes three separate visits as well as a follow up visit once the process is complete. In the first, Dr. Milman will assess the dental issues that you are facing and will help determine if veneers are right for you. In the second appointment, a small amount of your tooth’s natural enamel will be removed so that the bonding chemicals necessary for the veneers will adhere better. During this visit, you may need a light, local anesthetic depending on how much of the enamel is being removed as well as your own tolerance for discomfort. After the enamel is removed,an impression will be taken so that your veneers can be created.
During the bonding appointment, the veneers are placed and then adjusted to their final color and shape for the best and most natural appearance. They will then be cemented in place. Dr. Milman will ask you back for one more appointment to make sure that the veneers are working out for you correctly.
